About Daria

email: darlocher [at] gmail [dot] com

My name is Daria Locher. I graduated from Washington University in St. Louis in 2020 with a double major in Political Science and International and Area Studies, concentrating in Russian Cultural Studies. I won the IAS Outstanding Thesis Award for my thesis titled "Winged out of Woe from Wit: The Entrance of Literary Phrases into Russia’s Oral History."

I left college interested in how culture lies at the foundation of foreign policy and how the interaction of different value systems impact the difficult calculation of international negotiations. Now, I'm passionate about how people relate to the world through their free expression. In particular, I've gained a perspective in working since 2020 about the severe consequences when free expression and other human rights aren't ensured, and I want to dedicate my career to protecting these fundamental freedoms.
